Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Bridgeport

Despite a gritty second half, Roberts Wesleyan was unable to pick up the win against the Purple Knights

The Basics

Location: Voller Athletic  Center – Rochester, N.Y.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball fell 77-70 to Bridgeport at home in a spirited game Friday evening in front of the largest crowd of the season.

The Redhawks  were paced by Quinn Carey's 14 points while fellow freshman Zack Panebianco posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

How It Happened
After trailing by 14 points in the second half, Roberts Wesleyan managed to trim the lead down to just four points with just under a minute to play when Tyrel Dixon made a dunk.  However, that would be as close as the Redhawks would get as Bridgeport made their free-throws down the stretch.

Key Stat
The Purple Knights shot well from the charity stripe, making 18 of 23 in the game.

Inside the Numbers
- Panebianco's double-double is the first in his career after hauling in nine defensive rebounds for the Redhawks.
- A total of four players scored in double-figures for Roberts Wesleyan as both Mike Stone and Marcus Gooding each added 10 points.
- Stone is now at 982 points in his career, needing only 18 points to reach 1,000. He will become the 26th player in program history to reach the milestone.

"Panebianco's" Impact
The freshman' double-double helped keep the Redhawks in the game as seven of her nine defensive rebounds came in the second half.

Panebianco has scored in double-figures 11 times this season while averaging 11.9 points on the year.
