Volleyball Rolls Past LIU Post

Rochester, N.Y. - After losing a tough five set match on Friday the Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team rallied back to defeat LIU Post on Saturday in three straight sets.

The Redhawks won the first set 25-21 followed by wins in the second and third set by a score of 26-24.

Junior setter Elisabeth Rivera led the game in the assists category with 36 while senior outside hitter Alexandre Tahauri totaled 16 kills in the match to lead Roberts Wesleyan.

Down 11-12 in the first set, Kristina Button got the offense into rhythm for the Redhawks with an ace, knotting things up at 12 all. Six-foot-two senior middle hitter Anjali Thomson added three straight kills allowing the Redhawks to begin to pull away in the set in which they would go on to win by four.

Roberts Wesleyan found themselves down 24-23 in the second but found a way to rally for three straight points to win the set. A block by Kate Steger and kill by Tahauri closed the set out and gave the Redhawks a 2-0 lead.

With a 23-19 lead in hand in the third set LIU Post's Rachel Londot connected on two straight kills followed by two Redhawk attack errors to allow the Pioneers to climb back into the game. But kills by Tahauri and Kristina Button closed the match strong for Roberts Wesleyan to give them the shutout victory. Button finished with eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage on the game while also adding in two blocks.

Senior libero, Olivia Zureck led the game with 19 digs.

Roberts Wesleyan (6-7, 3-1) head to Daemen College on Tuesday for an East Coast Conference game. The matchup is slated for 7 p.m.
