Amherst N.Y.- Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer dominated ECC rival Daemen on Wednesday afternoon. The Redhawks scored three goals in the second half propelling them to a 4-1 victory.
The Redhawks started off fast in the first half with a goal in the 3rd minute of the game by freshman
Maya Rutland. The goal was assisted on by
Bella Mitrevski after Roberts Wesleyan capitalized on a counter attack off of a Daemen corner kick.
The Redhawks continued to put on offensive pressure getting off several shots on net, but the Wildcats responded with a goal in the 36th minute by Sarah Britten, knotting things up at 1-1. The Redhawks continued to pour on the attack but were not able to regain the lead heading into halftime.
Roberts Wesleyan found the back of the net often in the second half starting when
Emilie Frederikke-Bock scored the second goal for the Redhawks in the 59th minute of the game off a cross from Rutland. With a 2-1 lead the Redhawks didn't let up as
Taylor Rutland, twin sister of Maya who scored early in the contest ran onto a through pass from
Israela Groves and beat the keeper in the 75th minute. Ten minutes later Mitrevski added the final goal of the game to give Roberts a 4-1 lead which they would hold onto until the final whistle.
The Redhawks outshot the Wildcats 19-13 in the game and
Kelsey Brinkel made six saves in net.
Roberts Wesleyan (7-3-1, 4-1 ECC) plays again on Saturday October 8th in Caldwell N.J. against the Cougars at noon.
