Sparkill, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team faced a tough challenge Wednesday night as they squared off against the No. 6 ranked Saint Thomas Aquinas Spartans. Despite hanging in the game through the first half the Redhawks eventually lost, 65-96.
Malik Dare and
Quinn Carey both scored 14 points to lead the Redhawks offensively, but the Spartans offense proved difficult to stop with four players scoring in double digits. The team shot 60-percent from the field and 45-percent from beyond the arc.
Roberts held strong in the first half even after being down by as much as 19 points with just over six minutes to go in the half. The Redhawks were able to shrink the lead to 10 heading into the second half. Dare had 11 of his 14 points in the first half.
The Spartans began to run away with in the game in the second half going 23-of-30 (76.7%) from the field and 8-of-10 (80%) from three-point range.
Turnovers continue to plague the Redhawks as they committed 24 total in the game leading to 30 points for St. Thomas Aquinas.
Roberts Wesleyan (0-6, 0-2 ECC) will host Chestnut Hill College on Saturday. The Griffins are 3-4 on the season and are coming off an 82-83 overtime loss to Holy Family University. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
