Men’s Basketball Falls to Molloy

Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team fell to East Coast Conference opponent Molloy on Saturday afternoon 102-89.

The Redhawks fought a closely contested match in the first half as both Quinn Carey and Zack Panebianco both netted nine points each. The Lions were able to build a nine point lead before the end of the half as they went into the locker room up 50-41.

Despite being down, Roberts Wesleyan crawled back into the game and took the lead off a Manny Joseph three-pointer with 13:36 left in the second half. But the size of Molloy got the best of the Redhawks down the stretch as the Lions took advantage down low and built an 18 point lead with less than a minute to play in regulation.

Molloy outscored Roberts Wesleyan 58-38 in the paint much in part to big man Mike Guzzardi, a 6-foot-8 center who dropped in 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Redhawks were 33-of-67 (49.3%) from the field and 10-of-21 (47.6%) from three-point range. The season's free throw struggles seemed to settle down in the first half as the Redhawks were 3-of-4 but it continued down the stretch as the team shot 10-of-18 from the charity stripe.

Joseph finished the game with the team-high 21 points. Panebianco added 20 points and six assists.

Roberts Wesleyan (0-9, 0-4 ECC) is back in action on Sunday, December 18 at 1 p.m. when they host Slippery Rock University. Before the men's game begins former men's basketball player Tyrell Dixion ('16) will be inducted into the Wendy's College Classic Hall of Fame.
