Rochester, N.Y.- The Roberts Wesleyan Women's soccer team got an ECC win against Saint Thomas Aquinas on Friday night, 3-1.
In the 33
rd minute of the first half, senior midfielder
Bella Mitrevski shot and chipped the ball 18 yards out, over Saint Thomas Aquinas goalie Courtney Dumain, giving the Redhawks a 1-0 lead.
Roberts Wesleyan dominated the first half firing off 14 shots and only allowing one shot for the Spartans.
At the beginning of the second half
Orla Martin extended the lead to 2-0 after she tucked away a shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Shortly after Martin's goal there was a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Mitrevski took the kick and slotted it away to extend the lead to three.
Saint Thomas Aquinas was able to get on the board late in the second half off an indirect kick tapped in by Nicole Rivera. The goal was assisted on by Annalise Warren. Â
"I thought we had an ok first half, but a much better second half with our possesion, attack, and scored some quality goals," head coach
Sarah McClellan said. "Overall a good first conference game for us and now we look ahead to Sunday."
Roberts Wesleyan will play at home again on Sunday against Mercy College at 12 p.m.
