Rochester, N.Y. – The second home conference game of the season saw the Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team lose to Mercy College Sunday afternoon, 2-0.
Both teams traded shots back and forth early in the game, but Mercy opened the scoring in the 20th minute when junior Heidi Serna took a shot inside the 18-yard box and sailed it over the outstretched arms of starting Redhawk goalkeeper Kelsey Brinkel.
Down just one goal in the second half Roberts Wesleyan came out looking to even things up quickly. Senior Bella Mitrevski fired off a shot in the 57th minute forcing Maverick's goalkeeper Ashley Price to make the save. The Redhawks outshot Mercy 9-8 in the second half with 12 total shots in the game.
Roberts Wesleyan (2-3-1) held the Mavericks to a 1-0 lead until the 81st minute when sophomore Haley Noble added an insurance goal to make sure the game was out of reach for the Redhawks.
The Redhawks were outshot 15-12 in the game. Both teams were even in the corner kick category with four a piece.
Roberts Wesleyan travels to take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania for a Thursday afternoon matchup before they come back home for Saturday's homecoming weekend game.
