Rochester, NY - The Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss Saturday afternoon for their home opener to non-conference opponent Wilmington University (Del.).
Despite a strong second half that saw Roberts Wesleyan create the majority of offensive chances, a one goal deficit could not be overcome. The only goal of the match came midway through the first half when junior forward, Teigha Ward connected on a header that rolled into the left corner of the net.
The second half was controlled by an aggressive Redhawk offense led by
Bella Mitrevski who had six total shots in the game with several going just wide or high of the goal. Roberts Wesleyan outshot the Wilmington Wildcats 15-5 in the game.
"I was very pleased with today's effort," head coach
Sarah McClellan said. "We showed great improvement in our play. It was great to see progress today. Now we have to continue to improve this coming week."
The women's soccer team will be in action again on Friday, September 9
th at 7 p.m. against Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio.
