Box Score Rockville Centre, N.Y. –
Necedah James had a career day scoring 24 points, but it wasn't enough to push the Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball team over the Molloy Lions on Saturday afternoon as the Redhawks lost 62-73.
Â
James' 24 point outburst was a single-game career high for the Syracuse, N.Y. native. The junior guard shot 6-for-10 (60%) from the field and was perfect from the free throw line going 11-for-11.
Â
Second quarter offensive struggles plagued the Redhawks as they were outscored 8-17 in the quarter leading to a 14 point Molloy lead at the end of the period, 21-35.
Â
With 3:19 remaining in the third quarter Roberts used four straight three-pointers to make a run at the lead cutting the Lion's lead to just six points.
Lucy Covley hit three of the deep-range shots in that stretch on her way to scoring 12 points in the game.
Â
In the fourth quarter the Redhawks cut the lead to five points with 3:28 left in the game, but it was too little, too late as the Lions converted on their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Â
As a team, Roberts shot 22-of-70 (31.4%) from the field and also struggled from beyond the arc hitting just 7-of-24 (29.2%).
