Women's Volleyball Upset by Pace University

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team fell to non-conference opponent Pace University on Saturday morning, 3-1.
 
The Redhawks dropped the first set 25-18 to the Setters of Pace University but came back to tie the match up in the second set with a 25-21 win. Freshman Kathryn Krchniak helped Roberts get off to a quick start in the set with two service aces and a kill to give the host team a 6-1 lead. The Setters climbed back into the set later on with five point run to tie the score at 18-18. But the Redhawks would go on to close the set out strong with four straight points. Krchniak posted two of those points with two kills. Libero Shelby Strausbaugh added an ace and Anastasia Smith had a kill to allow the Redhawks to tie the match up at 1-1.
 
Roberts had an opportunity to seize the momentum with a third set win, but Pace was able to squeeze away with the 26-24 set victory. The Redhawks had the advantage when a kill by freshman Grace Detwiler made the score 23-22 in favor of the home team. But the Setters countered with two points to jump the lead at 24-23. Kristina Button added a timely kill to tie the score up at 24-24 but the Setters went on to score the final two points of the set.
 
In the fourth set the Redhawks were plagued with errors to give Pace the match victory. The team gave up ten points on attack errors and four points on service errors.
 
Krchniak, Strausbaugh and Kortney Schaum all had three aces in the match. Strausbaugh also led the team in digs with 18. Freshman Emily Rowlison provided 10 kills for the Redhawks and setter Elisabeth Rivera led with 20 assists.
 
Roberts Wesleyan (1-17) will have a week off before taking on East Coast Conference opponent LIU Post next Saturday at noon in Brookville, N.Y.
