Redhawks Take Down NYIT, 91-81

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team picked up its 10th win of the season on Friday following a 91-81 defeat of East Coast Conference opponent NYIT.

Four players scored in double digits for the Redhawks. Junior guard Michael Bush led with 18 points and had six assists. Brad Williams finished with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Redhawks jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead to start out the game, but the Bears were able to close the gap. A late offensive surge and a buzzer beating layup at the end of the first half gave Roberts a nine point leading heading into the second half.

In the second half the Redhawks extended their lead to 15 points with 16:20 remaining in the game, but a 12-2 run by the Bears cut the lead to just five points less than three minutes later. NYIT was able to overtake the lead with just over six minutes left in the game, but the lead changed hands several times with the final lead landing in the hands of the Redhawks with 3:35 left to play. A three pointer in transition by junior Justin Vaughan with 1:45 remaining put the Redhawks up seven and all but sealed the win for the home team.

The Redhawks shot 54-percent from the field while the Bears also shot a respectable 43-percent.

On Sunday, Roberts will host LIU Post with a 4 p.m. scheduled tip-off time. A win would move the Redhawks ahead of the Pioneers and into fourth place in the ECC standings.
