ROCHESTER, N.Y.– The Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team scored two early goals in the first half to beat Dominican College on Saturday afternoon.
Today's game was highlighted by two goals from Redhawks midfielder
Israela Groves. Groves' first goal came in the 5
thminute off of a cross inside the box from freshman
Justine Sharda, giving her the opportunity to finish and place the ball in the back of the Chargers net. The second goal from Groves was scored after making a lane for herself, dodging past a Dominican defender, and shooting into the lower part of the opposing net.
The Redhawks out shot the Chargers 20-6. Of those 20 shots, Roberts managed to get 12 on goal. Junior
Tiffany Melendez led the team in shots attempted with seven while the back line played a pivotal role in keeping Dominican scoreless. Goalkeepers, junior
Kelsey Brinkel and sophomore
Madison Lamarche, split time in net. Lamarche added four saves to her season total.
The Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team will face conference opponent Mercy College on Wednesday, October 17 at home. Kickoff is slated to begin at 5 PM.
