ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team looked to upset Bridgeport on Saturday in the Voller Athletic Center, but the Purple Knights fought off a first set win by the Redhawks to take the match 3-1.
Roberts got off to a good start against Bridgeport with a 27-25 victory in the first set. Holmes had five kills in the set with
Kristina Button and
Anastasia Smith adding two kills. With the score knotted at 25 Holmes delivered a kill to give the Redhawks set point which was finished by Button and
Riley Moll on a block.
Bridgeport came out aggressively in the second set and jumped out to a 10-4 lead. They would go on to win the set 25-10. The Purple Knights kept up the pressure in the third and fourth set putting the Redhawks in deficits early on in each set. Bridgeport took the third set and fourth set by the same score of 25-20.
Grace Detwiler was the kills lead for Roberts with 11 total followed by Holmes with 10 and Smith with seven.
Shelby Strausbaugh had 22 digs on the defensive end.
Roberts Wesleyan (3-13, 2-5 ECC) will host the conference leader Daemen next Friday night at 7 p.m.
