Redhawks Come Up Short In Tough Road Game Against NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -  The Roberts Wesleyan men's lacrosse team came up short in a hard-fought away game on Saturday against the number one pre-season ranked NYIT Bears, 16-13.

The Redhawks came out strong in the first quarter, responding to each of NYIT's goals with one of their own.  NYIT came into the second quarter with a vengeance, outscoring the Redhawks 6-1.  Heading into halftime trailing 9-4, the Redhawks returned ready to play.  Hunter Lemieux, Cody Menzies, and AJ Hems all netted goals in the third quarter, putting them down by only three goals.  The Bears locked in on their defense in the fourth quarter, not letting the Redhawks outscore them to stay in the lead for good.

Even though the Bears were victorious, sophomore goalie Brennan Mackey tallied 16 saves for the day, while the Bear's goalie had just four.

Menzies led the seven Redhawks who scored in the game, netting four total goals.  Hems followed close behind with three.  Freshman Matt Gademske tallied three assists and a goal of his own.

The Redhawks come back home for four straight games, starting with Franklin Pierce University this Tuesday at 2 p.m.
