Men's Lacrosse Picks Up First ECC Win of Season Over STAC

Rochester, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's lacrosse team proved a few losses won't keep them down when they rallied in a huge conference win against St. Thomas Aquinas College, 11-8.  This was their first win in five games.

Freshman Hunter Lemieux led the four Redhawks who scored with four goals and two ground balls.  Junior Cody Menzies netted three goals and assisted one, while senior Alex Bianchi and junior Kyle Dunham had two goals apiece.  Bianchi played a part in seven of the eleven goals for the Redhawks.  They beat the Spartans in almost every statistical category, getting 20 more groundballs and five more face-offs.

The first half proved to be a back-and-forth battle between the conference opponents, leading to a 4-4 tie at the end of the second quarter.  The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game, when the Redhawks outscored STAC 5-0.  Lemieux netted two of his four goals in the third.  Bianchi had four of his five assists in the second half, one of which was to fellow attacker Lemieux.  Even though the Spartans outscored the Redhawks 4-2 in the fourth quarter, Roberts came out on top.

Goalkeeper Brennan Mackey had 13 saves on the game, nine of which were in the second half.

This win puts the Redhawks at 5-7 on the season and 1-3 in conference play, keeping them in playoff contention.  They travel to Painesville, Ohio on April 25th to face off against out-of-conference opponent Lake Erie College at 7 p.m.
