SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team fell to Le Moyne on Thursday afternoon, 2-0.
The Le Moyne Dolphins got on the board in the 18
th minute to take the lead 1-0. Elizabeth Maguire scored after connecting with an Erica Wasserbach free kick from 40 yards out and managed to place the ball in the back of the Redhawks net.
Le Moyne scored their second goal of the game in the 62
nd minute when Wasserback fed a pass to the top of the box to find Maguire. Maguire, for her second goal of the day, shot from the center of the arc, past Roberts' junior goalkeeper
Kelsey Brinkel, and into the center of the net.
Despite the loss, the Redhawks were aggressive on the attacking side of the ball tallying seven shots on goal, including an opportunity by junior forward,
Tiffany Melendez in the 77
thminute that almost got the Redhawks back into the game, but she was denied by the Le Moyne goalkeeper.
"It was a tough battle on the road today," said head coach
Sarah McClellan. "We saw lots of positives that we can build on as we prepare for the next game at home."
Roberts (0-1-0) will move on and face Chestnut Hill College on Saturday for the home opener. Kickoff is scheduled at 1 p.m.
