Women's Soccer Posts Shutout Over Chestnut Hill In Home Opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y.– Four different Redhawks scored as the Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team soared past Chestnut Hill College, 4-0 in their home opener on Saturday afternoon.

The first goal of the game came in the fourth minute when Selena Beller's shot from 18 yards out found the back of the net. The assist was dished out by junior forward Taylor Rutland

The first half saw the Redhawks dominating possession in the opposition's side of the field. Two more goals were scored in the half as junior, Olivia Avery, took a shot from 18 yards over the keeper's hands in the seventh minute. Another impressive finish was drawn by the Redhawks, when in the 39th minute, McKennzie Pursel ran onto a precise pass from junior, Tiffany Melendez, inside the penalty area, where Pursel shot and found the back of the net, making the score 3-0.

The second half proved to be a possession battle as Chestnut Hill tried to muster up any way of getting back into the game. The Redhawks would not allow it as the fourth goal of the game was scored in the 65th minute. Junior midfielder, Israela Groves took a shot off of a free kick just outside the top of the box which hit the top bar and managed to sneak its way over the goal line, making the final score 4-0.

The Redhawks fired 16 shots in the game compared to six by the Griffins. 10 of those shots were on target. An impressive defensive performance from the back line also attributed to the Redhawks' dominance on Saturday afternoon.

This win marks their first of the season. Next up for the Redhawks is a home matchup against The College of Saint Rose on Monday, September 3. Kickoff is scheduled at 4 p.m.
