Women's Soccer Drops ECC Opener at NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team fell behind late in Saturday afternoon's ECC opener against NYIT, losing 2-0.

NYIT had two different players score in the game that saw the Redhawks get outshot 15-3. Roberts wasn't able to come up with a shot in the first half and three in the second with a total of two on goal for the game.

The Bears opened up the scoring in the 64thminute as Hannah Franco fired off a shot with her left foot that hit the middle of the crossbar and over the goal line to make it 1-0.

Only a few minutes later, NYIT would catch another break after being awarded a penalty kick in the 68th minute. The penalty kick was a result of Redhawks goalkeeper Kelsey Brinkel attempting to break up a play inside the box but ended up committing the foul, tripping up the opposing attacker. Defender Jess Hawley for the Bears would successfully score on her attempt, making the final scoreline 2-0.

Brinkel made five saves for the day.

Redhawks regroup and prepare for their next game, an ECC matchup at home versus Lincoln University (Pa.). This game is set to take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15.
