Women’s Soccer Falls To Thruway Rival Daemen In Overtime, 3-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – An overtime goal decided the contest between the Roberts Wesleyan women's soccer team and conference rival Daemen College on Saturday night, as the Redhawks lose 3-2 in O.T.

After a scoreless first half, the Redhawks were the first on the board scoring a goal in the 52nd minute of play. Sophomore Genevieve Palmer found a rebound off of a missed penalty kick, making the score 1-0. The next goal came shortly after as freshman Justine Sharda lined up a shot from inside the box and fired the ball into the left side of net.

After several back and fourth scoring chances, moments later the Wildcats were on the board. In the 65th minute a shot was blocked but found the feet of another Daemen attacker who was in perfect position to score.

The game would be all tied up as Daemen was awarded a penalty kick after a hard foul by the Redhawks. Daemen's Jamie Boyar's attempt was successful taking the two teams into overtime. Late into overtime in the 99th minute, Boyar would score the game-winner for the Wildcats off of a cross, one timing the ball into goal.

The Redhawks ended up getting 10 shots off on Daemen and managed to put five of them on goal. Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Brinkel played the entire game and had nine saves.

The women's soccer team's next game is another ECC conference matchup against LIU Post at home on Saturday, September 29. This Homecoming game for the Redhawks will kick off at 1 PM.
