FLUSHING, N.Y. – Make it two wins in a row now for the Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team as the Redhawks defeated Queens College, 3-0 on Saturday in East Coast Conference action.
Junior outside hitter
Rachel Holmes helped Roberts on both sides of the ball today recording 13 kills and 14 digs.
As a team the Redhawks posted a respectable .204 hitting percentage on the day getting 36 kills on 98 attempts. Queens had 20 kills on 85 attempts for a .106 percentage.
After winning the first set the Redhawks poured on the attack jumping out to an 11-1 lead. Roberts wouldn't let up and cruised on to a 25-17 set victory.
In the third set Roberts had to fight off a Queens' lead but were able to take the lead at 14-13 following a kill by
Anastasia Smith. The Redhawks never looked back from there and won the set 25-20 to sweep the Knights.
Lauren Taeko Chase had a game-high 29 assists and sophomore
Grace Detwiler had six aces.
Roberts Wesleyan (3-10, 2-2 ECC) looks to win their third straight match when they face off against Molloy (7-5, 2-2 ECC) on Sunday at noon in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
