ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team fell to Queens College on Friday night, 95-90 to drop their second East Coast Conference game of the season.
The Redhawks put points on the board first and held the lead for the first 29 minutes of the game but a second half comeback saw Queens grab a 61-59 lead at the 10:50 mark and extend the lead to as many as 12 points with just over one minute to play.
With what looked like an insurmountable deficit to overcome with little time on the clock the Redhawks rallied to within three points. Two three pointers in the final minute of play by
Isaiah Lewis sparked Roberts' run. With 10 seconds in regulation
Reggie Clark hit a pair of free throws to make the score 93-90. On the ensuing inbounds Clark was knocked down by Queens' sophomore guard Dwayne Henry, Jr., but it was Clark who was whistled for the foul resulting in two made free throws for the Knights. Roberts got off two more shots that couldn't find the range as time expired.
Peyton McLaurin led all scorers with a career high 29 points. The senior also added seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists. Lewis scored 15 points to go along with six boards and
Jean Toussaint posted 14 points and eight rebounds.
Roberts Wesleyan (6-5, 2-2 ECC) will host ECC-leading Molloy on Sunday at 4 p.m.
