Turnover Prone Redhawks Fall to Bridgeport, 90-73

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Turnovers were the downfall for the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team on Friday night as they lost to the University of Bridgeport, 90-73. It's the third straight loss in the conference for the Redhawks.

Isaiah Lewis and Justin Vaughan both scored over 20 points to provide over half the offense for Roberts. Lewis finished with 24 points, four rebounds and three assists. Vaughan had 21 points and eight rebounds.

Roberts turned the ball over 17 times in the first half alone but was able to keep Bridgeport's lead from getting out of hand. The Purple Knights used those turnovers to get up plenty of shots, firing off 43 shots in the half while connected on 16 of those from the field (37.2%). The Redhawks took 21 less shots than Bridgeport going 10-of-22 (45.5%) from the field.  At the halftime break Bridgeport led 43-36.

In the second half Roberts only turned the ball over eight times but Bridgeport was far more efficient than they were in the first half. The Purple Knights knocked down 15-of-33 (45.5%) from the field, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc.

A three-pointer by Vaughan at the 12:12 mark brought the Redhawks within six points of the lead but Bridgeport wouldn't allow the Redhawks to make any runs and built a double digit lead at the 9:46 mark that they never relinquished.

Bridgeport received scoring from 11 different players and had five players score double digits.

Roberts Wesleyan (6-7, 2-4 ECC) will play Mercy College on Sunday. Game time was moved up two hours due to weather concerns. Tip-off is now scheduled for noon.
