DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team rebounded from its loss on Friday with a 76-63 win over Mercy on Sunday at the new Victory Hall Sports Center on the campus of Mercy College.
Justin Vaughan,
Isaiah Lewis and
Armon Nasseri all hit the double digit mark in points scored. The three combined for 46 of the team's 76 points. Vaughan finished with the team-high 17 points along with 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Lewis added 15 points, three steals, and two assists and Nasseri had a season high 14 points and six rebounds.
The Redhawks used a 15-2 run in the first half to put some distance between them and the Mavericks. The offensive run started at the 11:24 mark when Lewis knocked down a pair of free throws. Mercy answered with a layup, but that was the only bucket they could muster over a nearly five minute span. Junior transfer
Brendan Banna, sophomore
Reggie Clark and Vaughan all hit three pointers during the run.
Roberts pushed the lead to 18 points but Mercy was able to reduce the deficit to 12 by halftime. At the break Roberts held a 38-26 lead.
The Mavericks quickly cut the lead to just five points early on in the second half but a three pointer by Lewis stopped the host's momentum leading Roberts to a 13-0 run that ended with a dunk by senior
Peyton McLaurin. The run gave the Redhawks an 18 point lead with the scoreboard reading 51-33.
Roberts continued to build the lead and held a 22 point advantage at the 8:11 mark of the second half. The Redhawks cruised to a 13 point win to pick up their seventh win of the season.
At 7-7, 3-4 ECC the Redhawks sit in fifth place among the conference. The team will be back in action again on Friday as they host the University of the District of Columbia for an 8 p.m. tip.
