First Half Lead Slips Away in 83-75 Loss to AIC

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team could not hold onto a first half lead as American International walked away with an 83-75 road win on Sunday afternoon in the Voller Athletic Center.

A solid first half by the Redhawks allowed the team to hold a 10 point advantage with seven minutes left until the break. Shane Fanning hit one of his three deep range shots to give Roberts a 27-17 lead. But American International answered quickly with a three of their own on the next possession to eliminate the double digit deficit. At the half Roberts still clung to a six point lead, 40-34.

Roberts looked to be in control at the start of the second stanza, finding a way to get back to a 10 point lead. But a 12-4 run for the Yellow Jackets brought the visitors to within two points of the lead, 50-48. Then a three-pointer by Jordan Vidal with 12:26 remaining gave AIC the lead and the team would not relinquish it from then on. The Yellow Jackets continued on an 8-0 run offensively that put the Redhawks down by 10 points with just over five minutes to play.

The Redhawks finished the game 26-of-63 (41.3%) from the field while AIC went 29-of-63 (46%). The difference was the second half shooting by the visitors who went 50-percent from the field in the second half including six made three pointers.

Armon Nasseri continued to lead the Redhawks with 18 points and eight rebounds. Redshirt freshman Amari Lee added 14 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, and two steals.

Jordan Vidal scored 19 for American International to lead the way.

Roberts Wesleyan will be right back in action on Monday, November 18 when they travel to take on Mercyhurst University. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
