Redhawks Fall to Mercyhurst, 89-56

ERIE, Pa. – Turnovers were costly for the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team on Monday night as they fell to Mercyhurst University, 89-56 to drop to 1-4 on the season.

A total of 20 turnovers on the night led to 30 points for the Lakers. Matched with a 50 point second half showing by the hosts and scoring from 11 different players the Redhawks were not able to make a comeback after being down 11 at the half.

Roberts got off to a 5-0 start and the lead changed hands six times up until there was 7:45 remaining in the first half. A three pointer then by Mercyhurst gave the Lakers a 19-17 lead and the team wouldn't give up the advantage for the remainder of the game. Roberts went on a cold streak as Mercyhurst used a 14-4 run over a five minute span to build a double digit lead.

The Redhawks had three players score in the double digits. Zecaree Veiga had 12 points along with Reggie Clark's 12, and Shane Fanning added 10 points. But scoring off the bench was pivotal to the Lakers, getting 45 points in that area.

On Saturday, Roberts will travel to take on Lake Erie at 4 p.m.
