SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team dropped its second East Coast Conference game of the season on Friday evening, losing to St. Thomas Aquinas, 82-58.
Midway through the first half the Redhawks only trailed by two points but the offense went cold for the remainder of the half allowing the Spartans to take a commanding lead. With 9:41 left in the half a layup by
Terrell Humes-Kinzer brought Roberts within two at 20-18. But the rest of the half fell in favor of STAC who went on a 22-6 run to lead at the break, 42-24.
The difference in the first half was the rebounding advantage for the Spartans. St. Thomas Aquinas pulled down 31 boards in the half including 15 offensive compared to 16 total rebounds by the Redhawks. At the final whistle STAC had a 51-30 advantage on the glass.
The usually three-point focused Redhawks couldn't find their range during the night hitting on just one of their 19 attempts from beyond the arc.
Armon Nasseri was the leading contributor for Roberts missing out on a double double by one rebound. The junior posted 15 points and nine rebounds.
Reggie Clark had 12 points to round out the double digit scorers for the Redhawks.
For STAC it was Avante Gilbert leading the way from off the bench with 19 points. Sekou Cisse had 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Roberts will be back at it again on Sunday against Mercy. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
