MANSFIELD, Pa. – Junior
Shane Fanning's buzzer beating three pointer paved the way for an improbable comeback on Wednesday night as the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team defeated Mansfield University 109-99 in overtime.
Fanning saved most of his scoring output for late game situations and overtime, totaling 10 of his final 16 points with less than two minutes in regulation and in extra time. No shots were bigger than his final pair of three pointers in regulation as he set up the game tying shot and then hit the shot to create overtime.
The first came with 12 seconds remaining in the game. Fanning hit the shot and was fouled leading to a successful attempt from the free throw line. That brought the Redhawks within one point of the lead. Just over a minute prior Roberts faced a 10 point deficit that seemed unlikely to trim. After getting a quick foul on the ensuing Mansfield inbounds the hosts hit both free throws to extend the lead to three, 88-85. But Fanning would keep the hot hand and calmly pump fake to create space and drill the game-tying triple as the buzzer sounded.
In overtime, Fanning kicked things off with yet another three pointer, giving the Redhawks only its second lead of the game. Roberts took the lead for one possession three minutes into the game. Fanning's opening three gave Roberts the momentum and led the team on a 12-1 run to break open the game in their favor and move on to a 109-99 victory. It was the second win of the season for Roberts.

Amari Lee was two assists shy of a double double with 23 points and eight assists.
Mansfield had five players hit double digits in scoring. The Mounties at one point held a 17 point lead during the first half and during the second half continued to hold a double digit advantage.
The win will hope to keep momentum going into Saturday as the Redhawks take on their toughest challenge yet in nationally-ranked No.11/8 Daemen College. The game will be the first East Coast Conference matchup of the season. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Lumsden Gymnasium.
