AMHERST, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team faced a tough challenge in nationally-ranked Daemen College on the road on Saturday afternoon, but the Redhawks couldn't find a way to pull off the upset, losing 96-70.
The loss was the 20th straight to the i90 rival. The last time Roberts defeated Damen was February 15, 2011. Since joining the East Coast Conference the Wildcats have dominated the rivalry with the Redhawks.
Following a first half that was controlled by Daemen the Redhawks found a way back into the game early on in the second half. The Wildcats held a 12 point lead at the half, but Roberts cut that lead to just three points with 14:25 remaining in the game. That's as close as the Redhawks could get for the rest of the afternoon as the Wildcats experience took over and slowly started building a substantial lead. Over the next four minute stretch Roberts saw its deficit build to double digits.
Roberts had a balanced scoring effort with five players putting up double digits.
Armon Nasseri led the way with 16 points. For Daemen it was Andrew Sischo leading with 27 points.
The Redhawks (2-7, 0-1 ECC) will continue their travels on the road next weekend with a Friday night matchup against St. Thomas Aquinas and Sunday game against Mercy.
