ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In the final home game of the season the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team defeated the University of the District of Columbia, 65-61.
The Redhawks picked up its fifth win of the season and handed UDC its 15th loss of the year. In what was an evenly played game that saw the largest lead of only eight points, Roberts found the edge midway through the first half and never gave the lead away for the remainder of the game.
Roberts used a balanced offensive attack and efficient shooting to keep the Firebirds chasing the lead. Overall the team went 24-of-46 (52.2%) from the field and 6-of-12 (50%) from 3-point land. Seven of the 10 players who earned minutes scored for Roberts with
Armon Nasseri,
Amari Lee, and
Shane Fanning all scoring 14 points. Fanning led the team with eight rebounds.
In the second half the Firebirds tied the game on three separate occasions but the Redhawks found an answer each time. Late in the contest it was still a one possession game but UDC couldn't find the range on a last second 3-point attempt.
UDC was led by Zachary Olukanni with 21 points and seven rebounds.
Roberts will close out the season on the road next weekend against NY Tech and Molloy.
