Men's Basketball Tops Tech, 74-69

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - In their second straight win, the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks picked up their first road win in the conference against the New York Tech Bears on Friday night.  Despite being outshot and out rebounded, the Redhawks were able to edge the night in a match that was close the whole way.

Instrumental to the Redhawks success was taking advantage of free throws and winning the turnover battle.  On the night, Roberts was 21-27 from the charity stripe, while the Bears were just 10-17. Staying clean on defense also meant that the Redhawks turned the ball over seven fewer times than Tech.

The match started off well for the Redhawks, as they spent the majority of the first half with the lead.  They led by as many as eight, however the Bears kept it close, tying the game twice and even taking the lead with 1:47 left in the half.  However, an Abou Gbane putback layup would return the lead to the Redhawks, and they would go into the break up by three.

NY Tech stormed to an early eight point lead in the second half, however a few crucial three pointers by Amari Lee and Shane Fanning brought the lead right back to Roberts.  Fanning would end the night with a double-double; his final line showing 17 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Lee would also have big nights for the Redhawks, with him and Reggie Clark picking up 20 points a piece.

With the win, Roberts rises to 6-20 on the season, and 3-10 in the ECC.  Their final game of the season is scheduled for Sunday, March 1st against Molly.
