ROCHESTER N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's lacrosse team picked up a hard-fought win in a 9-8 thriller Saturday morning against Saint Michael's College.
Saint Michael's started the game hot, scoring its first three goals of the game within the first five minutes. A Matt Gademski goal would end the run and put the Redhawks on the board.
Saint Michael's would strike back with another goal, extending their lead to 4-1 before a Hunter Lemieux goal that sparked a four goal run for the Redhawks. Roberts headed into the second half with a 6-5 lead after a tight first half. Â
Dan Doviak netted a Redhawks goal to start the second half before a two goal run by Saint Michael's, including a game tying goal from Ralph Grillone III at the 10:49 mark in the fourth quarter.Â
The Redhawks would strike back on offense, as Lemieux and Doviak would add a goal each and give Roberts a two goal lead. Drew Collins brought Saint Michael's to within one after netting a goal with 3:53 left in the game but Roberts would hold them off for the remainder and take the win.Â
Lemieux led the Redhawks offensively with three goals and one assist. Doviak and Eli Chalmers also netted two goals a piece.Â
The Redhawks put up a total of 30 shots throughout the game including 23 on goal.Â
The Redhawks improve to 3-3 on the season and will be back in action Wednesday, March 11th on the road against Lake Erie College.
