Redhawks Extend Winning Streak To Three

FLUSHING, N. Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College women's soccer team is on a roll.
The Redhawks received three goals from three different players and won their third straight East Coast Conference match, defeating Queens College 3-0 on windy Saturday afternoon.
"We were going against the wind in the first half so that was pretty tricky," Roberts coach Sarah McClellan said. "It was nice that we scored first and it was good to scrap through. It was a tough, tough road game and we knew that we were going to be in a battle for 90 minutes but the team powered through."
Junior Olivia Grande opened the scoring for Roberts (3-7-1, 3-3-0), converting a rebound 11:34 into the game for her second goal of the season.
Sophomore Abigail Sindoni tallied her team-leading third goal of the season to put the Redhawks in front 2-0 at 64:05 and senior Sydney Regan buried a rebound for her first goal of the fall to complete the scoring at 80:09.
Sophomore Nicolette Knauf, the reigning ECC Defensive Player of the Week, made one save for her second shutout of the season. Seniors Makenzie Muoio and Haley Cole also played key roles in leading the Redhawks to a second straight clean sheet.
"Mo (Muoio) and Haley are really settling in as center backs together," McClellan said. "They are playing at a real high level and keeping things organized in the back for us."
Roberts held a 13-8 advantage in shots for the game and placed five on frame compared to one for Queens.
"We know that we have a lot of potential," McClellan said. "Now we just have to keep focused and continue to build on this momentum."
Roberts returns to action at 1 p.m. on Oct. 23 at home against ECC rival D'Youville.
