ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In a thrilling season opener, the Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball team took Le Moyne College to the wire, but the Dolphins used a last second basket to walk away with the win, 97-96.
Redshirt sophomore
Ja'Kair Sanchez hit two clutch free throws with eight seconds remaining in the game to give the Redhawks a 96-95 lead, but Le Moyne's Kevin Constant answered with a driving layup with one second remaining to give the Dolphins the edge and ultimately the victory.
Roberts had four players score in the double digits with Sanchez leading the way with a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Amari Lee dropped in 15 points,
Fope Okuyiga had 11 and
Abou Gbane came off the bench for valuable minutes and scored a career-high 18 points.
Le Moyne had five in double digits with Constant scoring 19 to lead the way.
The Redhawks were 29-of-63 (46%) from the field and 13-of-25 (52%) from beyond the arc.
Roberts (0-1) will be back in action again on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. when they host Mansfield University.
