Rochester, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan College women's volleyball team rolled to a four-set victory over the University of Rochester during an exhibition match at the Voller Athletic Center on Friday.Scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-14, 25-14.
Senior
Emily Rowlison led Roberts with 14 kills, a .344 hitting percentage and 16.5 points while also adding 16 assists and 12 digs. Freshman
Madison Truong paced the Redhawks with 19 assists and 2 aces and added 9 digs. Sophomore
Lauren Norwood and freshman
Laura Amaya each added nine kills. Norwood also led the Redhawks with 15 digs while Amaya finished with nine points. Senior
Tori Westfall contributed 10 digs and freshman
Victoria Rudolph added six assists.
The Redhawks, playing a match for the first time since March 20, jumped to a 5-2 lead in the first set before the YellowJackets rallied to tie it at 6. Roberts scored 10 of the next 14 points to take control and closed the game on a kill by Amaya off an assist by Rowlison. Roberts led 16-12 in the second game before UR staged a late rally to win. The teams were tied at 6 in the third game before Roberts took command with a 15-4 run. The Redhawks won the fourth set in similar fashion, going on a 13-2 run to take an insurmountable 19-8 advantage.
The Redhawks had strong net play in the final two games, registering 28 of their 50 kills. Roberts (1-0) will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, against Daemen College (1-3) at the Voller Athletic Center.
