Redhawks Suffer First ECC Defeat

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Molloy University women's soccer team has won the last two East Coast Conference Tournament championships.
The Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks went toe to toe with the visiting Lions on a blustery Saturday afternoon before Molloy (10-3-2, 6-1) emerged with a 2-1 victory in a showdown between teams at the top of the ECC standings.
Joanna Mauceri's header off a corner kick gave Molloy a 1-0 lead with 27 seconds remaining in the first half.
Freshman Ella White leveled the game for Roberts (11-2, 5-1) with a blast from the top of the 18-yard box in the 54th minute. Junior Gabrielle Ciambella assisted.
White leads the ECC with 11 goals, which ties her for first place among first-year players in Division II.
Nicole Fabris scored the winner for Molloy in the 63rd minute.
"Molloy is a very talented team, so I thought our team battled very evenly with them," Roberts coach Sarah McClellan said. "We scored a nice goal during the run of play and just have to clean up a couple of things as we move forward this season."
Junior Nicolette Knauf made four saves for Roberts.
"It was a good, competitive game," McClellan "We definitely learned from it and felt that we had a good amount of play in the tough conditions."
The Redhawks will play their final regular-season home game against Daemen University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.
