ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team couldn't slow down the high-powered Mercy College offense on Saturday afternoon, losing to the Mavericks 3-1.
The Redhawks knew they were in for a challenge against the 11-4 Mercy team, who holds the highest hitting percentage in the East Coast Conference. But just under a month ago the Redhawks took the Mavericks to five sets on the road in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
On Saturday Mercy's offense prevailed as the team had 64 kills on 123 attempts (.439). Roberts was led by
Sydney Yanak who finished with nine kills.
After dropping the first two sets, Roberts found its way back into the match with a 27-25 win in the third. The Redhawks couldn't maintain the momentum into the fourth set while the Mavericks pulled away to a 25-12 win.
Roberts (3-16, 1-5 ECC) travel to Daemen on Wednesday evening for a 6 p.m. match.
