AMHERST, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team opened its season at the East Region Challenge presented by WNY Knee and Orthopedic Surgery PC on Friday morning at Daemen University.
Sophomore guard Malik Brooks scored 22 points in his debut for Roberts, but the Redhawks fell to Saint Anselm College, 97-80.
Abou Gbane added 13 points for Roberts and Anastasis Zetos chipped in with nine. Ja'Kair Sanchez led the Redhawks with seven rebounds.
Saint Anselm had six players score in double figures and used a 14-0 run to close the first half to pull away.
Roberts returns to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Georgian Court University, also at Daemen.
