Redhawks Place Third At National Christian Tournament

Box Score WINONA LAKE, IND. – The Roberts Wesleyan College women's basketball team capped an impressive finish to its season with an 84-73 victory over Asbury University Saturday to secure a third-place finish at the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Tournament hosted by Grace College.
The Redhawks (17-13) defeated Grace College, the tournament's third seed, in the NCCAA Midwest Region final to secure the No. 8 seed and then knocked off top-seeded College of the Ozarks on Wednesday before dropping a 78-62 decision to No. 5 Oakland City in the semifinals on Thursday. Asbury was the No. 2 seed.
"We tell the team that it's not how you start, it's how you finish," Roberts coach Kevin Clifford said. "I am happy and proud of our team and the fact that we finished the season with a win."
Sophomore point guard Danielle DiCintio set career-highs by sinking six three-pointers and scoring 22 points to lead five Roberts players in double figures. DiCintio also added 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.
Senior guard Taryn Wilson sank 4 three-pointers and scored 16 points as Roberts went 11-for-26 (42.2%) from long range. Wilson was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
"When we make 10 or 11 threes, have good balance and outrebound the other team by 16, we're petty good," Clifford said.
Sophomore Toni Neely-Primus added 13 points while senior center Dimitra Gkizani and sophomore guard Georgia Haverlock each scored 10. Haverlock added 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Gkizani pulled down 18 rebounds to notch her 11th double-double of the season. Junior Nyah Johnson added nine points in 14 minutes of action..
Roberts led 19-18 after the first quarter before outscoring Asbury 44-29 in the second and third quarters.
"I think that it was just the pace of the game," Clifford said. "We just stuck with it."
The Redhawks also held a 38-18 advantage in points in the paint.
