Redhawks Defeat UDC; Set Program Record For Wins In Season

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Roberts Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team overcame a slow start to roll past the University of the District of Columbia 18-10 in an East Coast Conference game on Saturday.

Senior attack Hunter Lemieux scored seven goals as the Redhawks (8-1, 3-0 ECC) remained unbeaten in their conference and established a new season total for wins. Roberts won seven games and reached the ECC Tournament final in the abbreviated 2021 season.

"I'm really happy," Roberts coach Rocky Delfino said. "We've got a lot of fifth-year seniors. The leadership is there, the work ethic is there and we are happy where we are."

Junior attack Reid Jackowski, who entered the game with an ECC-best 45 points, added a goal and six assists.

The game was tied 4-4 after the first quarter before Roberts used an eight-goal outburst to take a 12-3 lead at the half. Lemieux had three goals and an assist in the second and Jackowski added a goal and three assists in the period. Roberts also received goals from Mitch Streety, Jordon Deats, Michael Pierog and Dan Doviak.

"We got a couple of stops on the ride and we got a couple of fast-break goals," Delfino said. "Once we settled into our game we were OK."

Lemieux scored two more goals in the third quarter as Roberts blanked the Firebirds 4-0. He added two assists on the afternoon and has 33 goals on the season.

"He just had a Hunter-type day," Delfino said of Lemieux, who is the program's all-time leader in goals and points.

Pierog finished with two goals and two assists while Deats and Nate Maloney each contributed two goals and and assist. Doviak finished with two goals while Streety and Jacob Zimmerman each had one.

Sophomore Aidan Sheehan, the reigning ECC Defensive Player of the Week, made 12 saves.
