ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team placed seven players on the East Coast Conference first team and one player on the second team, the ECC announced on Friday.
Senior
Madison Bell was named the ECC's Attacker of the Year. Bell is joined on the first team by teammates
Lindsey Brinkel,
Natalie Arieno,
Alexis Grant,
Sophia Podszebka,
Madelyn Robinson and
Caitlin Tucker. Selected to the second team was defender,
Shay DeRoo.Â
Bell, Brinkel and Arieno are all repeat first-team selections. Grant and Tucker made second team in 2021.
Bell, a native of Webster, N.Y., led the ECC in goals (60) and points (93) and tops all of Division II in points per game (6.85). She scored 12 free position goals and added 25 draw controls and nine ground balls.
Brinkel, a senior from Greece, N.Y., also repeated led the conference in assists while also scoring 35 goals to rank second in points with 85. She leads Division II in assists per game (3.85) and is third in points per game (6.31). She was named ECC Attacker of the Year in 2021.
Arieno, a senior from Greece, N.Y., ranked second in the conference in both save percentage (45.2) and goals-against average (10.41) and finished third in saves (114). She also caused 13 turnovers and gathered 35 ground balls.
Grant, a senior from Brewerton, N.Y., ranked second on the team in goals with 40 and added nine assists. The midfielder also secured 30 draw controls, caused 24 turnovers and collected 19 ground balls.
Podszebka, a sophomore midfielder from Churchville, N.Y., led the ECC with 102 draw controls. She scored 11 goals, registered 7 assists, collected 24 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers.
Robinson, a sophomore defender from Lancaster, N.Y., led the Redhawks with 39 caused turnovers and contributed 26 ground balls. She ranks fourth in Division II with 2.85 caused turnovers per game.
Tucker, a junior defender from Centerport, N.Y., secured 37 ground balls, caused 19 turnovers and added 1 assist.
DeRoo, a senior defender from Fairport, N.Y., gathered 15 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers.
The Redhawks (9-5) earned the second seed in the ECC Tournament and will play top-seeded Mercy College in the championship game at noon on Saturday.
