INDIANA, Pa. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's volleyball team went 1-3 over the weekend at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Invitational. The team grabbed a win over D'Youville University in a non-conference matchup and fell to Frostburg University, UIndy and Davis & Elkins.
The Redhawks had to fight its way back into its first matchup of the weekend after D'Youville won the first two sets of the match. Roberts rallied to win the final three sets, including a tightly contested fifth set that went into extra points. A kill by sophomore
Sydney Yanak gave the Redhawks a 16-14 set victory.
Yanak led Roberts with 16 kills against D'Youville.
Sarina Pasquantonio had 24 assists in the match.
Head coach Doug Poterfield knew the competition at the IUP Invite would be challenging but was proud of the team's effort and growing in the "3 G's" of the team culture.
"Our three 'G's' of the team are Grit, Gratitude and Gusto," Porterfield said. "I think we learned the most about gusto this weekend. It's the no fear type of play where risks are part of the journey. The team played hard against very good competition. We still have a lot of work to do, but I believe out team has the desire and determination to keep working."
Roberts (2-7) will play in a tri-match next Saturday at the University of Saint Rose. The team will play Saint Rose at noon followed by a second match against Frostburg State at 2 p.m.
