ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore guard
Ryan Garwood scored 12 of his game-high 17 points in the second half as the Roberts Wesleyan University men's basketball team defeated D'Youville 77-74 in its East Coast Conference opener on Wednesday night at the Voller Athletic Center.
Garwood went 5 of 6 from the field and converted on 4 of his 5 three-point field goal attempts, including a trey that tied the game at 74 with 2:06 left. Junior
Isaiah Elmore converted a free throw with 1:17 left to give Roberts (2-4, 1-0 ECC) a one-point lead and Garwood added two free throws with six seconds remaining.
D'Youville (1-5, 0-1 ECC) missed a potential tying three-point shot at the buzzer.
Marlon Pratt Jr. added 13 points for Roberts while Elmore contributed 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Malik Brooks added 10 points and
Ryan Hudson scored eight.
Roberts returns to ECC action on Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. game at Daemen.
