ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team fell behind early and spent Sunday afternoon in catch-up mode against host Lewis University.
The Redhawks (1-1) rallied late but were unable to catch the Flyers (2-0) and lost 18-12 in a non-conference game.
Lewis built a 7-0 lead before junior
Jordon Deats scored a man-up goal to get Roberts on the board with 11:14 remaining in the first half. The Redhawks scored the next two goals, but Lewis answered and took an 11-4 advantage into the half.
Senior
Dan Doviak led Roberts with four goals while Deats and graduate student
Reid Jackowski each finished with two goals and two assists.
Freshmen
Ethan Brown and
Curtis Denison both scored their first two college goals for Roberts.
Jacob Zimmerman and
Matt Walsh both tallied an assist for Roberts.
Sophomore
Andy Davis made 12 saves and freshman
Sam Keens led the Redhawks with four ground balls.
Lewis, which was picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference this season, went 5-for-10 with the extra-man and held an 18-14 advantage in face-offs.
Roberts went 3-for-8 with the extra-man. Freshman
Isaac Marrero won 8 of his 12 face-offs.
The Redhawks return to action at noon on Tuesday for a non-conference game against Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
