ROCHESTER, N.Y. –
Ja'Kair Sanchez hit the game-winning shot for the Roberts men's basketball team with less than a second on the clock to give the Redhawks an 84-83 win over Mercy on Saturday afternoon.
Sanchez took a pass from
Rian Carter down the right-hand side of the court. The junior then drove right and pulled up for a mid-range jumper to give Roberts the go-ahead bucket.
Sanchez finished the game with a team-high 22 points. The Syracuse, N.Y. native had 20 points in the second half alone. The junior also had four assists, four rebounds and one steal.
Leading the way for Mercy was Jayden Dewaal with 26 points and 21 rebounds.
The Redhawks got 36 points from players coming off the bench. Max Mitchell had 11 points and was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Roberts improves to 8-11 and 6-5 in the East Coast Conference. The Redhawks will host Daemen on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
