DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team opened East Coast Conference play with a game at No. 4 Mercy on Sunday morning.
The Monarchs scored four goals in the final 3:06 of the second quarter to take a 14-7 halftime lead and came away with a 21-14 victory.
Junior midfielder
Jordon Deats led the Redhawks (5-3, 0-1 ECC) with three goals and an assist and sophomore
Gunner MacMillan added three goals.
Mercy won 32 of 38 faceoffs and held a 55-32 advantage in ground balls. The Roberts defense forced 24 Mercy turnovers.
Graduate student
Reid Jackowski (2 goals, 1 assist) and fifth-year midfielder
Jonathon Deats (1 goal, 2 assists) each added three points for the Redhawks.
Dan Doviak,
Justin Skelly and
Matt Walsh each contributed a goal and an assist and
Jacob Zimmerman,
Ethan Brown and
Curtis Denison also scored goals for Roberts.
Sophomore
Andy Davis made 14 saves for the Redhawks.
Roberts returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday for an ECC game at Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
