ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Alyssa Hackett scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the second half for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team but a pair of earlier goals by St. Thomas Aquinas gave the Spartans a 2-1 East Coast Conference (ECC) win Saturday afternoon.
St. Thomas Aquinas (3-5-3 overall, 2-1-1 ECC) fired double the shots as Roberts (4-6-1, 2-3-0 ECC) but the Redhawks defense was strong with eight saves on the day including five in the second half.
The Spartans scored 16 minutes into the contest and doubled the lead 2:15 into the second half but Hackett took a pass from junior Cami Brescia with 16 minutes left in the second half and buried a shot into the lower corner to cut the lead in half.
Hackett and fellow junior Larissa Johnston combined for five shots to lead the Roberts offense.
Prior to the game five players were honored for senior day as Maia LaVigne, Lillian Dickson, Abigail Sindoni, Amanda Fordham and Brescia (a junior graduating early) were recognized and honored for Senior Day.
Roberts will hit the road for three consecutive games at Pace, at Wilmington and at D'Youville before returning home October 26 to face Molloy on the Redhawks Turf Field.
