Women’s Soccer Falls for First Time since 2022 in ECC Play

AMHERST, NY – Daemen University scored a goal in each half to escape wit a 2-0 victory over the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team Wednesday afternoon on Karrer Field. It was the first loss for the Redhawks in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.

Roberts (4-4-1 overall, 2-1-0 ECC) had a streak of 11 straight ECC games without a loss (8-0-3) dating back to 2022 and a late-season loss to Daemen on October 22, 2022.

Daemen (4-4-0 overall, 3-0-0 ECC) used a turnover deep in the Roberts to break in for a shot just inside the far post for a 1-0 lead midway through the first period.

Roberts dominated play early in the second half but a long pass broke a forward free for Daemen and a shot past a diving Nicolette Knauf gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

The Redhawks dominated the stats page for the game with a 22-15 shots advantage and a 11-5 shots on goal edge but the Wildcats defense held strong for the shutout victory.

Knauf finished with three saves while Daemen goalkeeper, Becca Schultz, was forced to make 11 saves in the game.

The Redhawks continue ECC play Saturday at Mercy with a 2:30 game in Dobbs Ferry.
