Field Hockey Scores Another 5-0 Win

LANCASTER, PA – Freshman Mary Catherine Maloney scored two goal and fellow freshman Makena Tooley added a goal and an assist to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team to a second straight 5-0 win as the Redhawks traveled to Pennsylvania and downed Lancaster Bible College Monday afternoon.

"It was a nice win that came at the right time," said Head Coach Marissa Kocher. "We have been going through some things and it was nice to see the team come together and lean on each other and overcome some adversity and play well."

Roberts (2-10) did not waste any time getting started as Tooley scored her third goal of the season just 35 seconds into the contest off an early penalty corner with a shot over the head of the goalie to give the Redhawks an early lead.

Midway through the first quarter, Maloney recorded her first career goal as Tooley added the assist to double the lead for Roberts.

Late in the first quarter, Roberts boosted the lead to 3-0 as freshman Ava Trzepacz scored her first career goal as she tapped in a rebound off a shot by junior Mia Robinson that was originally saved into the open side of the goal.

Six minutes into the second period, senior Katie Krawczyk scored on a penalty shot to boost the lead to 4-0.

Roberts held an 11-0 shots advantage in the first half of action and had five penalty corners.

Maloney added her second goal of the game five minutes into the fourth quarter for the only goal of the second half and the final goal of the game.

Roberts used two goalies with sophomores Avery Richardson and Abigail Henderson each playing a half.

"This was a total team effort," said Kocher. "Our passing and ball distribution was good and we were able to keep the pressure on the entire game."

The Redhawks finished with a 17-0 shots and 10-0 shots on goal advantage.

Roberts returns to action Saturday with a home game against D'Youville at 11 a.m. on Redhawks Turf Field.
