MANSFIELD, PA – Sophomore Avery Richardson tied her season high with 18 saves and cleared the 300-save career milestone as the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team battled No. 9 ranked Mansfield University Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania.
Mansfield (7-4), ranked No. 9 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) national poll, held just a 1-0 lead at halftime as Richardson made 10 of her 18 save in the first half.
The Mountaineers scored early in the second half and then added two more goals for a 4-0 lead after three periods. Mansfield finished the game with three more goals in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Roberts (0-10) was outshot 36-1 with a 27-0 shots on goal disadvantage. Mansfield also had a 24-1 edge in penalty corners including an 11-1 edge in the first half.
Richardson, the NCAA leader in saves per game last season, cleared the 100-save milestone for this season and combined with her 196 saves last season, now has 302 career saves. She entered Wednesday's game ranked second in the nation with 10.50 saves per game. She also ranks ninth in the country with a .792 save percentage and is ranked 25th with a 2.75 goals against average.
The Redhawks return to action next Wednesday at home against Elmira College with a 4 p.m. game on the Redhawks Turf Field.
