Balanced Attack Gives Men’s Basketball a Comeback Win

ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Malik Brooks and sophomore Nasir Hammonds combined for 35 points and led six players into double-figures scoring for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Basketball team scored nearly 60 points in the second half to post a 97-88 win over Lock Haven University Saturday in the home opener in the Voller Athletic Center.

Hammonds scored 17 points and Brooks scored a team-leading 18 as the Redhawks (2-2) rallied for 58 points in the second half on the strength of 54.8 percent (17-for-31) shooting in the final 20 minutes of action.

Junior Arnardo Camacho (12), sophomore Keonjay Carter (11), senior Ryan Garwood (10) and senior Jermaine Taggart II (10) all added double-digit scoring totals for Roberts. Camacho led the team with 11 rebounds and also had eight assists and five steals.

Lock Haven (1-3) had control early and led by 13 points at 52-39 at halftime but Roberts scored the first eight points of the second half to trim the lead.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomore Spencer Glenn and Garwood gave Roberts a 61-60 lead five minutes into the second half.

The Bald Eagles scored seven straight points to regain the lead before The Redhawks went on a 13-0 run to take the lead for good as sophomore Trey Kleitz capped the run with a 3-pointer.

Roberts led by as many as 13 points with a layup by Taggart with five minutes remaining and the Redhawks connected on 11 of the final 14 free throws to seal the victory.

Roberts is off until Saturday when they host Saint Michael's College in the second game of a women's and men's basketball doubleheader in the Voller Athletic Center.
